London is a city whose iconic status matches that of Paris and New York. Located on the River Thames in the south east of England it enjoys the best of Britain’s temperate climate but rarely escapes the nation's infamous rainfall.
The Palace of Westminster, Big Ben, Nelson's Column, Westminster Cathedral, Marble Arch and the Royal Albert Hall and dozens of other classic buildings abound and London is fast becoming home to a range of modern giants such as the 72 storey Shard London Bridge, the amazing 'Gherkin' and the new Bishopsgate Tower. The new British Library is also a must see for fans of innovative buildings.
Other tourist attractions include The London Eye, Madame Tussaud's, V&A Museum, National Gallery and National Maritime Museum at Greenwich.
As might be expected from such a cosmopolitan city, London is home to some of the best theatres and cinemas in Britain and also houses some of Europe's finest restaurants.
