Madrid is especially notable because it combines so much of interest to the tourist. Great museums are plentiful and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofĂa, Spain's modern art museum, is home to Picasso's masterpiece 'Guernica' as well as paying tribute to other great Spanish artists of 20th-century of course.
For those who want to experience more of Madrid's culture there's the famous El Rastro Flea market, a spectacular Carnavale just before Lent, the Bullfighting Museum (Museo Taurino) and Spain's answer to Disneyworld, the Warner Brothers Movie World at Madrid.
Madrid has a distinctive culinary tradition and is justly proud of its more unusual cuisine like Oreja de Cerdo (fried pig's ear with garlic) but tourists are more likely to opt for the more familiar Tortilla de patata (potato omelette) or Paella! Madrid's Sol and Salamanca district is packed with department stores and classy designer shops. However, the Chueca and Fuencarral Street areas and the Fuencarral market are perhaps the coolest shopping spots!
