The Laurence Olivier Awards
MasterCard is pleased to have entered into a three-year partnership with the Society of London Theatre and The Laurence Olivier Awards. It's the most prestigious theatre awards show in the industry, rewarding the very best performances from the stage.
The 2011 show was held on the 13th of March at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where a striking array of stars from the film, music and theatre industries gathered together to toast the very best of London theatre.
There was an impressive rendition of 'Copacabana' by the legendary Barry Manilow, followed by a 'Look to the Rainbow' duet with west-end leading lady, Kerry Ellis. In a special performance, Sierra Boggess and John Owen-Jones joined together to deliver the title song of one of the world's best-loved musicals: 'The Phantom of the Opera'. Alfie Boe performed 'Some Enchanted Evening', before Angela Lansbury took to the stage for the finale - her first singing performance on a London stage for many years. She was supported by a 300-strong cast of drama students in producing a moving tribute to American Composer, Stephen Sondheim.
This year, there was also a 'Best New Play' award. The first deserving recipient of this new accolade was Bruce Norris for Clybourne Park.
As a result of this exciting new partnership, MasterCard will soon be delighted to announce an extensive London Theatre Programme with unique opportunities for all cardholders. For more information, just visit www.olivierawards.com/mastercard
